What: Help victims of SIDR in Bangladesh (Donation Drive)
When: Tuesday, the 4th December from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Memorial Union by the bookstore.
Bangladeshi Student Organization will be hosting a donation event to help the victims of the SIDR cyclone on Tuesday, the 4th December from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Memorial Union by the bookstore.
Cyclone SIDR has inflicted much damage in Bangladesh killing about 10,000 people and injuring thousands more. The devastation flattened and damaged estimated 750,000 houses, killed about 250,000 livestocks, and damaged 95% crops in the damaged area (right before the harvest time). More than 600,000 metric tons of rice is lost.
Destroyed houses made millions homeless. Food, drinking water, blankets, warm clothing, shelters and first aids are now needed to keep the surviving children and families alive. Relief effort by Bangladesh government and organizations like WorldVision, CARE, Save the Children , and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are helping in this regard. Significant amount of resources are required for the relief effort. On average, $100.00 is required for sustaining a typical family that has lost all their physical belongings for three-month period (until the next harvest).
Your donation will help saving lives. Donation of any denomination will be accepted. Cash and/or checks are the preferred method. In addition, by enlisting your email address you will get an update of this effort in January 15, 2008.
